Our French Connection

Friends of ours Peter and Veronica Latus have recently moved to the beautiful area of Perigord in France and they  have just  completed a wonderful self-catering apartment. We have visited it ourselves and can highly recommend it if you fancy a peaceful holiday in rural France.

The old Abbey La Vieille Abbaye
Getting there is very easy, we flew from Liverpool to Limoge with Ryanair (very cheap)and it is less than an hours drive to the Studio. Ryanair also fly from other UK Airports and do a good deal on car hire.
The accomodation, known as the L'Abbaye Studio, comprises:-
  • 1 double bedroom with 2 single beds and a luxury shower
  • 1 double bedroom with 2 single beds bathroom with bath and shower
  • One kitchen and lounge
  • All rooms are on the ground floor
  • Bedding and towels are provided
  • Car parking and garage and service facilities for cycles
  • Gardens

Local Area

The Hamlet of La Vieille Abbaye is situated in the Parc Naturel Perigord-Limousin La Vieille Abbaye is surrounded by forests with an abundance of wildlife and traditional French villages and with quiet roads, forest tracks and many picturesque views it makes an ideal base for artists, birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers. Guided cycling runs are available if required. The many local villages have lakes for fishing and lakes for swimming, usually with picnic areas which can be used free by the public.

 

The Venice of the Dordogne, the town of Brantome, traditionally popular with artists, is less than half an hour away by car. The beautiful villages of St Jean de Cole and Jumilhac-Le-Grand - famous for their chateaux and Villars - noted for its underground grottoes are also less than half an hour by car.

For the lover of French cuisine, there are numerous restaurants nearby to suit all tastes and pockets and for the wine connoisseur, many caves.

For the shopaholics and city lovers Perigueux, a beautiful cathedral city, Limoges and Angouleme are all within an hour by car.

The airports of Limoges, Bergerac and Bordeaux are at 1 hour, 1 1/2 hours and 2 hours respectively.
